Container Sizes: What Fits in a 16′ vs. a 20′ Box

Why 16′ and 20′? (And Not 12′ or 40′)
You’ll see other sizes online. Some companies offer smaller units, such as 12-foot containers. Large 40-foot containers are common for long-term on-site storage, but they generally can’t be relocated with belongings inside. If you need your container moved to a storage facility or to your new home, a 16′ or 20′ is the practical choice.
How Badger Box Delivery Works
Many storage companies deliver containers with a rollback (tilt-bed) truck, sliding the box down onto your driveway. We don’t. Our truck stays in the street, and your container is set down gently onto rubber pads under its feet and rolled into position.
That approach has two real advantages:
- Less wear on your driveway. The container is set down gently on rubber pads instead of being dragged off a tilted truck bed.
- Tighter placements. Because the truck doesn’t have to back onto your property, we can get containers into spots a rollback truck can’t reach.
The process, step by step
- Get your price and book online. All of our pricing is available up front in our booking app.
- We deliver your container to your driveway, yard or job site.
- Load it on your schedule. Take as long as you need, with no movers on the clock unless you want them.
- Keep it on-site or send it to storage. Leave the container on your property, or we’ll bring it back to our secure facility.
- Redelivery and pickup. When you’re ready, we’ll deliver it to your new home or pick up the empty container.
How Much Space Do You Need for Delivery?
We’re very flexible with placement. As a general guide, plan for:
- About 9 feet of width
- About 9 feet of height clearance (watch for low branches, gutters and wires)
- About 12 extra feet of length beyond the container itself, so our equipment can be removed after drop-off. That’s roughly 28 feet for a 16′ container and 32 feet for a 20′.
We can place containers on driveways, grass or gravel. One heads-up: a container sitting on grass for an extended period can kill the grass underneath it, so a driveway or gravel pad is usually the better spot if you have one.
Storage Options: On Your Property or at Our Facility
You can keep your container on-site for as long as you need it, which is ideal for renovations, decluttering, or staging a home for sale. Or we can bring it back to our storage facility, which is fenced, lit and monitored by cameras.
